Elder’s online auction is scheduled to run from October 21st through November 4th and will offer over 275 lots of Asian items with emphasis on Chinese, Japanese, Southwest Asia items and European decorative arts.
In the area of Chinese there are many items being represented from Ming to Qianlong dynasties, such as two lots of Chinese Ming Dynasty Manjusri bronzes and a Qing dynasty bronze peach form water coupe. A pair of Chinese Republic period Famille Rose porcelain vases and a pair of Famille Jaune porcelain dishes should bring some active bidding. Another example of Chinese porcelain is a large Qing dynasty Famille Rose tea waste box and a 20th century Chinese painted porcelain plaque. There are also several lots of Chinese Rose Medallion including a large punch bowl, vases, platters and other pieces.
An impressive pair of Qing dynasty Sang de Boeuf vases will be among the favorites, as well as a Chinese export 900 silver octagon reticulated box depicting finely detailed sea creatures swimming among seaweed.
Other Chinese items being offered is a Qing dynasty red ground Kesi imperial silk robe, as well as several embroidered military badges all part of the many lots of textiles. Several lots of Chinese jewelry will be well represented such as a carved amber toggle necklace and carved jade earrings, brooches and pendants. Three Chinese Export 19th century occupational paintings will also be included along with several Chinese ink and color paintings and several lots of Chinese pewter and cloisonné.
A Japanese 19th century hardwood Shaku Dokei pillar clock should draw special interest. Also included in the Japanese decorative arts category are Japanese laquered boxes from the Meiji period as well as Japanese cloisonné and metalware.
Ten colorful Tibetan Tangka’s should be sought after by collectors as well as unusual Tibetan 20th century hand beaded hat flaps with applied turquoise. Several items of Tibetan metalware such as a bronze dragon candle stand and copper ritual horns will also be included.
One of the highlights of the sale is fabulous oil on canvas by renowned French realist painter Leon Augustin L’Hermitte (1844-1925), a rural scene depicting a maiden nursing in the fields. Other fine art offerings are several 19th century American stately oil portraits one in particular is an oil on canvas portrait of civil war Brigadier General John Floyd from Savannah Ga.
A large and variable collection of Southeast Asia decorative arts includes several colorful Indian reverse glass paintings of Courtesans in mostly genre scenes. One of the most interesting ones depicts a dandy seated with his courtesan with a rose in her hair. Examples of 19th century colorful Tanjore paintings should also bring interest.
