News-Antique.com - Sep 15,2016 - BRIMFIELD, MA - September, 13, 2016 - The Brimfield Flea Finder app was downloaded over 450 times on Saturday September 10th, which was a single day record for the smartphone app designed to help shoppers navigate the Brimfield Antiques and Collectibles Show. This past Sunday marked the end of the show's 58th year while the app closed out it's third season with over 16,000 downloads since inception.
The app connects buyers and sellers at the oldest running outdoor antique show in the country and is operated independently from show management. Dealer information is self-reported and updated for each show. Dealers provide the types of items they sell, contact information, social media links, photos and their location at the mile-long show so shoppers can locate them easily using GPS. Shoppers are able to search by dealer name, item category or keyword.
App developer Ryan Servant created the app in part to bring the Brimfield experience to a younger audience. "It was obvious the demographics of the show were changing and a smartphone app would appeal to both old and new shoppers."
Servant added, "People have been looking for a dealer directory solution in Brimfield for years. The show is so large and even though there is a tremendous selection of items, it can be difficult to find what you're looking for. A smartphone app can be dynamic and flexible and most shoppers have them readily available."
In 2016 there were 24,750 unique searches in the app for items or categories of items. The total numbers of searches has gone up significantly with each show since launching in 2014. "Every search within the app is a potential sale. The app has the potential to increase overall business at the show which is an integral part of most dealers' businesses."
Kaitlin Servant handles most of the marketing for the app. Social media is a major focus and has transformed Brimfield Flea Finder into an effective micromarketing tool for the show and participating dealers. "We have young and old dealers. Some use social media some don't. We consider ourselves and equalizer in that regard. Early on we had a lot of success with home decor type dealers but we are now starting to break into the collectibles market as dealers become more aware of how powerful a tool it can be."
Brimfield Flea Finder social media reach has also increased sharply. The 2016 season ended with over 3,050 Facebook and 5,200 Instagram followers. Followers are highly targeted. There is significant growth in reach during each show (May, July and September) with lulls in between.
