ARNOLD FRIEDMAN O/C OLD NEW YORK (1874-1946)
American modernist born in NY studied with Robert Henri was a member of the first congress of American artist many exhibitions have been held across the country. Work brings in excess of $10000. We offer an oil on canvas by the artist depicting old Manhattan. Measures 61" x 20" (152.5cm x 50.8cm) plus original frame. Painting is signed left center and looks similar to title shot of the movie "Gangs of New York"
JEAN BAPTISTE CLESINGER BRONZE BUST OF FEMALE 1857
(FRENCH, 1814-1883) bronze sculpture depicting the bust of a partially nude beautiful woman. Her hair bound to the back with leaves and grape clusters. 1857 superior detail bust measures 29 " tall (73.66cm) Jean Baptiste Clesinger, known as Auguste, was born in Besancon in 1814, son of George Philippe, sculptor and stone mason. A pupil of his father's, he showed for the first time at the Paris Salon in 1843 (bust of Viscount Jules de Valdahon). His father had taken him to Rome in 1832 and he worked in Bertel Thorvaldsen's studio for a while. Upon his return to Paris he worked with David d'Angers maintaining a studio in Rome at the same time.
