Race Horse Owners 1905 Cognac Wins Big A bottle of 1905 Hennessy Grand Champagne Cognac, presented to the owner of famous race horse Mill House, following his win at the Hennessey Cup, galloped to a victorious £3,450 at the second dedicate
News-Antique.com - Nov 07,2013 - The century old bottle [pictured] of Hennessy Grand Champagne Cognac was presented to William H Gollings after his horse Mill House won the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury Racecourse 50 years ago. It sold to a collector in the room for £3,450.
Research conducted by the Auctioneers with Hennessy confirmed that it was probably the only existing single vintage bottling outside the Hennessy family reserves. Usually Hennessy use their barrels of spirit, some of which date back to 1800, to blend into their prestige products, rather than for single vintage bottlings, such as this example. [Lot 65]
Rare ‘vintage dated’ whiskies proved popular, with a Gordon & Macphail Macallan Glenlivet, distilled in 1937, selling for £805 [Lot 196] and a bottle of The Macallan 18 Years Old, distilled in 1969 and bottled in 1987 selling for £690 [Lot 139].
Live bidding was available for collectors from across the world via live.bidforwine.com and www.the-saleoom.com.
