Lambertville, NJ: The Rago Arts and Auction Center hosts an open house on Thursday, October 24, featuring a talk by Andrew Raimist on “Isamu Noguchi and ‘My Arizona’” at 6 pm. The talk takes place during the preview week for Rago's 20th/21st C. Design auctions.
In 1978, Isamu Noguchi, legendary artist/designer/architect, presented two versions of his celebrated sculpture “My Arizona” to Gary Zeller, a young scientist and conservator. Rago Auctions is proud to be representing both of these original works in its 20th/21st Century Design sale on October 27th.
In this illustrated lecture, Andrew Raimist will describe the history, form and significance of Noguchi’s sculpture "My Arizona". He will address the importance of this work in the development of Noguchi's oeuvre, its relationship to other critical works of the period and its formal, political and historical significance.
Andrew Raimist, an architect, writer and photographer, teaches architecture at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. His architectural work is focused on mid-century modern architecture and preservation. His recent book (en)visioning Hyde Park documents his collaboration with Rebuild Foundation in St. Louis. Mr. Raimist is the recipient of grants from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, the Missouri Arts Council and the American Institute of Architects.
The auction house opens on Thursday, October 24 at noon. A reception begins at 5 p.m. Raimist will speak at 6 p.m.
