News-Antique.com - Sep 26,2013 - More Than McCoy has recently added quite a few assortments of vintage canning and food jars. They have become the hot new functional collectible this year! They are selling for $4-$24/each at estate sales, flea markets and auctions. We have them for sale in attractive wood and metal baskets, dairy carriers, and crates. The old canning jars, as well as old glass food jars, are showing up at shows with dispenser tops, hole-punched lids, and corks as well as their original zinc lids. They are being used as lighting fixtures, for candles, as vases, and as dispensers for soap. And, they are also being used for potpourri, and as parts of mini-displays in different rooms with spools, clothespins, seashells, thimbles, pebbles, marbles, beads, seeds, corks, pincushions, and more in them.
Just beware of newer jars being sold as ‘vintage’ jars. Most of the newer jars I have come across are shinier, clearer and usually have a tiny beaded ring on the bottom. The older jars will have bubbles, mold lines, an aged bottom, and will usually have a larger size a number on the bottom. Older jars often have company logos like the HA logo of the Hazel Atlas Co., as well as other companies, and the lids will be zinc, glass or tin.
If you want to bring some nostalgia into your home, vintage jars are a neat way to achieve it without breaking the bank. When you visit More Than McCoy, check out the Kitchen Collectibles main category, then hit the subcategory: Fruit Jars and Glassware for a huge selection of fruit and food jars that are for sale and are attractively displayed in dairy carriers, baskets, and metal carriers.
