Skinner Fine Art Auction Features The Robert Bunting Dance Collection Boston, Mass. – September 6, 2013 – Skinner, Inc. will auction prints, photographs, paintings, and sculpture on Friday, September 20th at its Boston gallery for its highly anticipated fall American &
series of illustrations, the most famous being the Mexican Major, now in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. Many of the illustrations were published in Harper's Monthly, where Stable Call at an Artillery Barrack appeared as a line engraving in November, 1889.
Modern and contemporary paintings on offer include a work by Alexander Calder titled Arrow Left (lot 817, $30,000 to $50,000) and Lilacs by Karl Knaths (lot 786, $20,000 to $30,000).
Notable sculpture offerings include a bronze figure with his bow pointing upward having just shot an arrow into the sky titled Pumananqwet (He Who Shoots the Stars) by Philip Shelton Sears (lot 635, $4,000 to $6,000), two boxers in action upon a wooden plinth by Joseph Brown (lot 747, $4,000 to $6,000), and Abbott Lawrence Pattison’s Man in the Piazza (lot 797, $2,000 to $3,000).
