Skinner to Auction Fine Jewelry in Boston Skinner, Inc. will host an auction of Fine Jewelry in its Boston gallery on Tuesday, September 10th. The sale will feature over 600 lots of antique and period jewelry, as well as contemporary jewelry
fund. Rudolph Valentino (1895-1926), the original “sex symbol” of film from the 1920s, was known for his love of fine clothes and jewelry, and his signature slicked-back hair. This ring was worn in the 1925 silent film The Eagle, in which Valentino plays a Russian army lieutenant seduced by Czarina Catherine II, played by Louise Dresser.
A fine selection of signed pieces includes a Van Cleef & Arpels 18kt gold gem-set charm designed as a circular “game of chance” charm (lot 695, $2,000 to $3,000) and the auction’s cover lot, an 18kt gold and diamond necklace by Mario Buccellati (lot 711, $15,000 to $20,000). An 18kt gold gem-set “Magic Alhambra” necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels (lot 700, $10,000 to $15,000) and an emerald and diamond wristwatch by Cartier (lot 705, $6,000 to $8,000) will also be offered.
