News-Antique.com - Mar 28,2013 - Five auctions in eight days, you say? Garth’s Auctions is turning up the volume in April. Garth’s will be holding their Eclectic auction April 5th, which will be followed by four Virtual Salesroom auctions on April 12th. What does this mean for Garth’s consignors? More options! And for Garth’s buyers? More great antiques, art, and collectibles from which to choose. Preview will be open for all five sales the first week of April.
Garth’s clients may attend the live sale in Garth’s Eclectic gallery beginning at 9:00 am on April 5th. They will want to come see what Garth’s staff discovered within the abandoned safety deposit boxes of a local financial institution or find the perfect piece to creatively upcycle into their home décor. Customers will enjoy all the regular bidding opportunities (in-person, absentee, online) and a wonderful mix of furniture, art, silver, pottery, firearms, jewelry, and more during the Eclectic Auction.
While Garth’s has been offering the option of real-time, online bidding for all their auctions since 2002, our new virtual salesroom auctions launching on April 12th aim at reaching a larger group of bidders. All the lots that have been selected for the online only auctions will become available on Garth’s website on or about March 29, so bidders may view them anytime if they cannot make it to the gallery for traditional preview.
On April 12th, Garth’s will stagger the auction times and sale categories as follows: 10:00 AM Vintage Posters & Movie Memorabilia, 12:00 PM Stock Certificates & Bonds, 2:00 PM Sports Memorabilia and 4:00 PM Ethnographic & African Art. All sales will be held like a regular auction, but without the live audience in the salesroom. Clients may only bid online or via absentee bid.
Movie & Vintage Posters will start the day and features diverse items from a private collection comprised of 70+ years of movie history. Very early posters for films such as Double Indemnity #120 (estimate $4,000-6,000), Her Condoned Sin #139 (estimate $2,000-3,000), Key Largo (estimate $1,500-2,000), a six sheet for Rebel Without A Cause #101 (estimate $4-6,000) and a three sheet for East of Eden #78 (estimate $400-$600) should tempt many collectors. A French poster for The Creature from the Black Lagoon #26 (estimate $700-$900) was illustrated prominently in the color brochure produced by Garth’s to promote the sale. Lobby cards and classic Western posters will be offered. A wide selection of formats half sheets, one sheets, six sheets spanning the 20th Century includes World War I examples selling bonds in vibrant, graphic designs.
Stock Certificates & Bonds will attract those interested in simple scripophily (collecting of canceled old stocks & bonds), but also autographs, history, and finance, for example. The category crosses a wide variety of collector fascinations thanks to the variety of color, design, type of company, signatures, share quantity and more. A Standard Oil Trust certificate signed by John D. Rockefeller and Henry M. Flager is sure to be one of the highlights with an estimate of $2,000-4,000.
