165 Sinkiang Frontier Treasury Note 新疆藩庫官票: 400-Cash, CD1911 辛亥 stamped over Xuan Tong 宣統, serial no.火398 (Pick unlisted; S/M H120, without illustration). Small edge tear at top, pinhole, very fine and very rare.
416 Qing Dynasty 清朝: Gold Rectangular Sycee Ingot from the Nanking shipwreck, ND (c.1750), cast as a bar in boat shape stamped with a double gourd containing two characters “巨記 Ju Ji” at its centre, the character “寶 Bao” (Treasure) at either end, Rev stamped “三益 San Yi” twice and “王舖 Wang Pu”, 365g. Sold in the original auctioneers’ oak box numbered “102”, light scuffs as usual, otherwise good very fine.

The “Nanking” wreck subsequently proved to be the VOC Retourschip Geldermalsen. She was built in 1742 for the Zeeland chamber of the VOC, with a tonnage equivalent to 1,155 metric tonnes, one of the largest Dutch Eastindiamen. She foundered on a coral reef in the South China Sea in January 1752. The celebrated Amsterdam auction disposed of over 100,000 pieces of Chinese blue-and-white porcelain and 124 10-Tael gold sycees, eighteen of which were shoe-shaped and 106 of this rectangular shape.

474 Honan Province 河南省: Brass Pattern 10-Cash 水龍黃銅十文樣幣, ND (c.1904), struck by Ferracute Machine Company, Bridgeton, New Jersey (USA), from dies engraved by Charles Barber (Chief Engraver at the Philadelphia mint) (CCC 520). In PCGS holder graded SP63, prooflike surfaces 鏡面處理, extremely rare.
