The runaway success of Downton Abbey—the hit series by Masterpiece Theater about manor life in Edwardian England that is viewed by millions of people in more than one hundred countries in the world—has ended its third season with fans clamoring for more as they anxiously await news of how Matthew Crawley’s (Dan Stevens) death will affect Lady Mary and the fate of the Crawley Family.
Antiquers and collectors will be pleased to learn that the April issue of Southeastern Antiquing and Collecting Magazine will feature the antiques of Highclere Castle, where much of Downton Abbey is filmed. In the article, the Lady Fiona, the 8th Countess of Carnarvon, is interviewed about the collection of antiques she lives among in a centuries-old castle. She reveals more of the history of Highclere, including the family’s connection to the discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamen. She also discusses the art, porcelain, and tapestries, and an antique not seen on Downton Abbey that belonged to Napoleon.
