Oakland,CA — On Sunday, February 17, 2013, Clars Auction Gallery will host an exceptional sale of rare and important decorative arts and furnishings as part of their February Fine Antiques and Estate Sale.
The premier lot of the sale will be a circa 1920 Tiffany Studios, New York, Daffodil table lamp. Exquisite in execution and detail, this lamp is being offered with an estimate of $80,000 to $120,000. This important offering will be complemented by an impressive selection of Tiffany Studio lighting.
Also from Tiffany, and coming from the estate of N. Lee and B. Herbst-Gruhn of San Francisco, will be a Tiffany and Company sterling flatware service for eighteen in the Renaissance pattern. Each service is comprised of an eight-piece place setting. This offering is estimated at $10,000 to $15,000.
A very rare Teco glazed earthenware vase (1900-1904) will no doubt draw highly competitive bidding. Designed by Harold Hals, a form of this type has only come to auction twice before. This important piece is being conservatively offered at $25,000 to $35,000.
Furthering the rare and important will be carousel reindeer created by Gustav Dentzel, Philadelphia, in the early 20th century. An exquisite example of his attention to detail and master carving, this reindeer was part of Playland, San Francisco and comes to the sale with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000.
A number of exceptional furniture offerings will also be featured. Of particular note in the Modern genre is a sofa and game table, both circa 1969, by Arthur Espenet Carpenter, Bolinas, CA. The striking red sofa is being offered at $4,000 to $6,000 and the table at $6,000 to $8,000.
From Francois Linke will be an important Louis XVI style ormolu-mounted kingwood library table, circa 1900 , that comes to the sale with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000.
Among the many other highlights will be a collection of Chinese and Russian currency. This collection includes 1918-1925 Russian Imperial and Civil War notes from the Western Front to Eastern Siberia. In addition, there will be a collection of Chinese notes, mostly Northern Provincial banks and private companies. This currency collection will be offered in single and group lots.
