John Moran Auctioneers Final Antiques Auction of 2012 Goes Off Without a Hitch Chock full of gorgeous Continental furniture and decorative arts, including silver, clocks, art glass, and fine art, John Moran’s November 13, 2012 Antiques Auction yielded strong results. Solid pric
beautifully executed by Adolph Frederick Durand, easily outgrew its estimate of $1000 to $2000, finally going home in the hands of a floor bidder for $3000 despite damages to the shade.
Assorted Highlights from this auction also include:
- A Mexican Enlightenment oil on canvas, titled on the reverse, “Angel De La Guarda”, brought a stellar $4800- four times the high estimate ($800 to $1200).
- A Swiss-made Chase music box started a fervent bidding war on the floor, only ceasing when the price landed at $3000 (estimate: $1200 to 1800).
- A much-anticipated Dutch longcase clock, featuring six rocking automaton ships depicting the Battle of Dogger Bank of 1781, filled every available telephone line with prospective buyers. Conservatively estimated to bring $3000 to $5000, the signed JP Kroese piece found a new owner for the price of $16,800.
- A Russian nickeled bronze figural group, cast after a model by Nicolai Ivanovich Liberich and dated 1860 took everyone by surprise when it skyrocketed to a final selling price of $66,000. Originally estimated to bring $20,000 to $25,000, the piece is now heading back to its country of origin with a Russian telephone bidder.
