Vintage designer clothing is the perfect way to make a splash at any holiday gathering. Following the successful sale of a Mariano Fortuny gown for $9,480 in September, Skinner is pleased to offer two Fortuny silk pleated "Delphos" gowns with Venetian glass beadwork. One is available in tea pink and the other in olive green (lots 650 & 700, both lots $4,000 to $5,000). A triangular Brussels lace wedding veil in ivory c. 1820 (lot 631, $600 to $800) and a Revillon Paris adjustable length dark brown fur coat with belt (lot 715, $300 to $500) will also be offered.
Furniture & Decorative Arts
Day two of the Holiday Auction includes a large selection of gift items such as Austrian bronzes, Steiff teddy bears, hold-to-light Santa Claus postcards, formal tableware, and mid-century modern furnishings.
Notable examples of furniture include a Louis XV-style marble-top, gilt-metal-mounted, inlaid, and veneered side cabinet (lot 928, $400 to $600); an Alvar Aalto black leather bentwood armchair and pair of black leather upholstered blondewood fan-leg stools (lot 970, $700 to $800); and a pair of Victorian renaissance revival upholstered carved walnut parlor armchairs (lot 1115, $700 to $900).
A 19th century American oil painting depicting a lake view in the mountains (lot 1149, $300 to $500), an 83 piece Villeroy & Boch ceramic Watteau pattern ceramic partial dinner service (lot 1158, $400 to $600), and two Korean iron-mounted pine tansu chests (lot 1192, $400 to $600) will also be offered.
Skinner will also be offering over 50 lots from the collection of Penny Marshall, American actor, director, and author who is perhaps best known for her starring role in Laverne and Shirley. Lots 801 to 852 in the sale reflect her well-known collecting aesthetic that brings together folk art, Arts & Crafts, and modern design.
Austrian Cold-Painted Bronzes
