Matthews Auctions, LLC will hold a major auction in Raymond, Ill., Nov. 23-25 Nearly 2,000 quality lots of antique toys, vintage and modern firearms, petroliana, soda, breweriana and country store will be sold at a three-day event planned for Nov. 23-25 by Matthews Auctions.
will also have some outstanding ceramic syrup dispensers, including one for Fowler’s Cherry Smash (“Our National Beverage”), with original pump top, 15 inches tall, rated 9; one for Ward’s Lemon Crush, 13 inches tall, rated 8.75 and 8, with no chips, cracks or repairs; and one for Ward’s Orange Crush, rated 8.5, also 13 inches tall with no chips, cracks or repairs.
Do cigarettes and swine go together? They do in this paragraph! Offered will be a single-sided porcelain sign for Eagle Bird Cigarettes, rated 9+ with ten layers of porcelain, showing great color and gloss but some minor chips, too; and a Landrace “America’s Fastest Growing Swine Breed” double-sided tin sign with top and bottom lip and fine graphics, rated 9.5 and 8.5.
Soda fans will not be disappointed. Pepsi lots will include original artwork for a Pepsi-Cola sign (“The Light Refreshment – Refreshes Without Filling”), mixed media on artist’s board and in good condition, 21 inches by 40 inches, rated 8.9; and a Vendo Pepsi-Cola coin-operated vending machine (Model #BMC-88) in original condition, rated 8.5 with only some light wear.
Coke fans will be able to bid on an original and rare Coca-Cola single-sided tin sign, self-framed, with “Elaine” holding a glass of Coke, 30 inches by 20 inches, rated 7. Also sold will be a Wrigley counter-top chewing gum display, holding four kinds of gum, metal, rated 7.5; and a Wrigley’s Doublemint / Spearmint double-sided porcelain sign, 9 inches by 30 inches, rated 8.
Rounding out just some of the auction’s expected top lots are a Dutch Boy (Red Seal) double-sided die-cut sign advertising white lead paint, with marvelous graphics front and back, 20 inches by 14 inches, rated 8 and 7; and a Watling Scale Company “Watch Your Wate” coin-operated weight scale, metal and glass, fully restored, 77 inches tall, in excellent working order.
Matthews Auctions, LLC will hold live online-only auctions in December, January and February, before its next live audience sale, slated for Feb. 19-20, 2013 in Raymond, also at the Pope Auction Center gallery.
