News-Antique.com - Oct 31,2012 - (RAYMOND, Ill). – Nearly 2,000 quality lots of antique and collectible toys, vintage and modern firearms, petroliana, soda, breweriana, country store and more will be sold at a massive three-day event planned for Nov. 23-25 by Matthews Auctions, LLC, based in Nokomis, Ill. The auction will be held at the gallery of the Pope Auction Center, on Illinois Route 48 in Raymond.
The first day of the sale – Friday, Nov. 23, beginning at 10 a.m. (CST) – will be devoted mainly to toys and firearms. Toys will feature a rare and restored metal Caterpillar Diesel D-4 pedal bulldozer in nice condition by New London Toys, a John Deere pedal tractor, Texaco trucks, airplane banks, and pieces by Marx, Wyandotte, Lehmann, Chein, Tonka and Structo.
Vintage firearms will feature a pre-ban Colt AR-15 Model SP1 .223 caliber long gun in very good condition (serial #SP89953), with a 20-inch barrel, triangle forearm and no forward assist (circa 1963-1984); and a World War II commemorative Thompson .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with 18-inch barrel, never fired, issued by the American Historical Foundation.
Other long guns will include a Stag Arms AR-15; an 1894 Winchester .32 caliber; a Winchester 90; a Ruger M77 300 with Winchester magazine; a Browning A-5 automatic 12-gage; a Remington 30-06 pump with scope; a Winchester Model 320, .22 caliber; a Springfeld 1884 trap door; SKS Chinese; Postal Meter and Inland; Stevens Double Barrel and M-1 carbines.
Handguns will feature an S&W 5906 9mm; an S&W 4046 9mm; a Colt 1877 thunder; a never-shot S&W 622, .22 caliber; a never-shot Glock .22-.40 caliber; a Colt 1911 A1, .45 caliber and others. An actual cannon will also be sold. So, too, will be two knife display cabinets and several lots of gun advertising (Winchester, Savage and others). Federal firearms laws will apply.
Days two and three – Saturday, Nov. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 25 – will have over 1,000 lots of antique advertising and country store items. Petroliana will abound, with items including a Cadillac Authorized Service double-sided porcelain sign with shield logo, 42 inches in diameter, rated 9+ out of 10 on both sides for condition and an excellent sign, with great color and gloss.
Also offered will be a Husky Service double-sided porcelain sign with dog and sunburst logo, 48 inches by 42 inches, rated 8 and 7, with great gloss and color but also several chips; and a Richlube (“Safety!”) Motor Oil double-sided porcelain sign with early open wheel race car graphics of a car going downhill, 24 inches in diameter, rated 8, with stellar color and graphics.
Rounding out the category is original artwork for a “Time to Re-Tire – Buy Fisk”sign, oil on canvas, 21 inches by 46 inches (26 inches by 56 inches in the wood frame), rated 9+, in very good condition and with great vivid colors; and a Wayne Model #80 computing gas pump with Martin & Swartz faceplates, restored in Sunoco colors and complete with fancy 13 ½ inch globe.
