Joining the King of Pop Culture, Gary Sohmers, on Saturday and Sunday from Noon till 2 pm Saturday Nov. 17 and Sunday Nov. 18, will be Elizabeth Falk, widow of Lee Falk, who will be offering original comic strip artwork in his booth at the largest antiques, collectibles and decorating annual event in the big apple.
These one of a kind works of art will be offered from Lee Falk’s personal collection featuring artists Wilson McCoy, Sy Barry, Phil Davis and Fred Fredericks creating the art of The Phantom and Mandrake the Magician.
The Phantom was the very first costumed superhero created in 1934 by Lee Falk, and Mandrake the Magician is the subject of a new Warner Brothers movie in development.
All original artwork will include a Certificate of Authentication signed by Elizabeth Falk, Lee’s wife of 30 years, who assisted Lee with stories being his inspiration and muse.
Elizabeth Falk is also a renowned New York City Stage Director working with Opera and Theatrical performance. Elizabeth has directed 59 productions of classical and contemporary dramatic theater, musical theater and opera at such venues as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, AMAS Repertory Theater and Broadway.
Gary Sohmers, who appeared as an appraiser of Pop Culture, Collectibles, Toys and Memorabilia for 13 seasons on the PBS TV program “Antiques Roadshow,” will be doing verbal appraisals of attendees antiques and collectibles for a small donation to the American Red Cross. Gary represents the Lee Falk Collection of original comic strip art, making these unique works of art available to the public.
