The October Discovery auction features a fine collection of cloth dolls including an Izannah Walker (lot 29, estimated between $8,000 and $12,000), a Maggie Bessie (lot 20, $8,000 to $10,000), an early Kathe Kruse, (lot 99, $1,500 to $2,500), and a Martha Wellington (lot 65, $6,000 to $8,000). A Tynietoy mansion (lot 100, $8,000 to $10,000) and a Tynietoy garden (lot 101, $800 to $1,200) will also be offered. French Bebe and lady dolls round out the extensive selection.
For toy collectors, a Moxie Horsemobile pull toy (lot 86, $2,000 to $3,000) will be offered along with wooden picture puzzles, Steiff animals, train sets, and various Marx tin toys.
Ephemera & Collectibles
The sale features a varied selection of WWI, movie and rock-n-roll posters, notably one depicting the band The Doors, circa 1969 (lot 221, $600 to $800) and another advertising a performance of The Supremes at the Lincoln Center (lot 240, $500 to $700). Jim Morrison’s 1970 book, An American Prayer (lot 220, $1,000 to $1,500) and a Neil Armstrong autographed portrait print (lot 175, $1,000 to $1,500) will also be featured. Armstrong’s autograph is part of a collection of mid-60s NASA astronaut autographs and ephemera that will be available at the sale.
Magazine highlights include a collection of Playboy magazines dating from 1953-1990s, including the 1953 debut issue featuring Marilyn Monroe (lot 230, $1,500 to $2,000).
An early 20th century roulette wheel, sports collectibles, comic books, and early photography will also be on offer.
Furniture & Decorative Objects
Furniture offerings include a Joseph Gerte Co. Georgian-style inlaid burl veneer and carved mahogany demilune server (lot 771, $400 to $600), and a Victorian Renaissance Revival carved oak server with paw feet (lot 665, $300 to $500).
Decorative objects include a large collection of Royal Doulton character jugs, as well as
a French gilt-brass and beveled glass mantel clock (lot 631, $300 to $500), three German stoneware steins and a sterling silver lidded porcelain stein (lot 504, $250 to $350), and a pair of Venetian colorless blown and gold fleck art glass ewers with dragon-form handles (lot 551, $200 to $300).
Paintings & Works on Paper
Artwork includes an untitled abstract done in gouache and tempera on paper by American Hazel Finck (lot 911, $700 to $900) and two oil on masonite figural works by Yuli (Feiga Blumberg-Kopman) Blumberg (lot 1039, $600 to $800).
