News-Antique.com - Sep 12,2012 - Guernsey, UK, September 12 2012 – A sculpture of Denis Compton by David Wynne will sell at PFC Auctions on September 27 2012.
The sculpture was commissioned by Michael Pugh, father of English cricketer Tom Pugh who was the captain of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club between 1961 and 1962.
Sculptures by David Wynne can be seen across the UK. His most famous works include Boy with a Dolphin at Chelsea Embankment, Guy the Gorilla in Crystal Palace Gardens, Queen Elizabeth Gate at Hyde Park Corner and Fred Perry at Centre Court, Wimbledon. He has also sculpted The Beatles, Pele, Virginia Wade and Shergar. Wynne’s 1984 sculpture Cresta Rider sold for £109,250 at Christie’s in July 2011.
