News-Antique.com - Aug 29,2012 - Sweet Romance seeks owner of rare jewelry find! The Deco Vintage 1930s Glass Panel Bracelet from Sweet Romance is being given away during a two week contest at sweetromanceonline.com. This rare, outstanding piece of American fashion seeks an owner who can appreciate classic deco styling expressed in a statement bracelet of individual panels seated with pierced handmade art deco glass from the 1930s.
“For the last 20 years, I have purchased caches of old glass elements whenever the opportunity was presented to me,” explained designer Shelley Cooper. “I had a wonderful connection with an importer active in business during the 1930s-50s, and I acquired some exceptional stock from him, often sight unseen.”
Reserving her vintage stash for the perfect design opportunity, Cooper created this rare display of pierced glass panels inspired by an oriental theme, prominent in fashion and decorating during the art deco years. After WWII, glassmakers in a region known as Gablonz, in Czechoslovakia, created glass components for fashion jewels to mimic jade, aventurine, cinnabar and lapis.
“The panels of my deco bracelet display their art, incised with cranes and fish,” Cooper explained. “I used “sun-ray” pattern carnelian glass to accent the colored panels on each link. Alternating panels of stylized blossoms set with crystal baguettes complement the glass panels, creating a large, yet slinky, antiquarian bracelet.”
