Rare Minton cup and saucer set for four brings $3,500 at Woody Auction, July 7 A rare and fine set of four Minton cups and saucers, nearly flawless except for a hairline crack on one cup and some repair work to another, sold for $3,500 at an auction held July 7 by Woody Auction.
biscuit jars, one of the top achievers was a rare 7 ½ inch Royal Flemish example boasting four color segments with four medallion coins. It went for $1,700.
A 3 inch by 6 inch C.F. Monroe cigar band round hinged clear crystal box, with vintage cigar bands and flor fina portrait center, soared to $1,800; an 11 inch by 10 inch marked Crown Milano bride’s bowl, tri-corner shaped and set on a Pairpoint silverplate stand, coasted to $1,500; and a signed “F. Carder” (Steuben Aurene) art glass trumpet vase with swirl design made $1,500.
A 2 inch signed Daum Nancy art glass toothpick holder with winter scene cameo design, boasting excellent color and condition, reached $1,300; a 15 inch marked Mt. Joyce cameo cut art glass handled ewer in a dark amber color with pine cone and branch décor breezed to $1,200; and a Wave Crest (stamp mark) two-handled bowling pin-shaped vase, 17 inches tall, hit $1,100.
A 12 ¼ inch tall unmarked Durand pedestal art glass vase with green background and silver King Tut design and butterscotch interior changed hands for $1,300; a marked Crown Milano ball-shaped vase with cream background, pansy décor and heavy gold highlights went for $1,250; and an R.S. Prussia point and clover mold chocolate pot, 10 inches tall, realized $1,000.
Woody Auction’s next big sale is slated for Saturday, Aug. 18, also at the Sedgwick County Extension Center in Wichita. Featured will be three fine personal collections of antiques, with Royal Bayreuth, R.S. Prussia, biscuit jars, Roseville pottery, furniture and lamps. There will also be a large number of items selling in boxed flats. The auction will begin at 9:30 a.m. (CST).
Then, on Saturday, Sept.22, also at 9:30 a.m., Woody Auction will stage an auction at the St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles, Mo. It will be an American Brilliant Cut Glass auction, featuring a rare six-sided Panel Pattern deep bowl by Hawkes followed by a matching round tray, a wedding ring bowl by J. Hoare and a selection of finger bowls and underplate sets.
