News-Antique.com - Jul 10,2012 - (BOUCKVILLE, N.Y.) – This year marks the 41st anniversary of Madison-Bouckville Antique Week, slated for Aug. 13-19 in Bouckville, a town located in central New York State, not far from Syracuse and Utica and right on State Route 20. The event will play host to over 2,000 dealers and vendors and is expected to attract 45,000 people or more to its many fields.
Madison-Bouckville Antique Week is the largest antiques and collectibles show in New York State. It has often been compared to Brimfield, the thrice-yearly colossus in Massachusetts. Both are many shows combined into one week-long mega-event. In the case of Madison-Bouckville, there are about seven large fields with many dealers and vendors, plus smaller fields.
Featured will be quality antiques and collectibles from centuries past, displayed for sale by the many dealers and vendors offering them. There will also be a wide array of excellent food vendors and plenty of parking at several show fields. Some of the show fields and vendors will be open for business as early as Monday, Aug. 13. All fields will be open by Thursday, Aug. 16.
New for 2012 will be a pre-show auction of mostly sports-related items, to be held by Lang’s Auction, Inc., on Aug. 10-11 at the Cider House Show Field in downtown Bouckville (for details, visit www.langsauction.com); a $500 cash giveaway promotion (for details, log on to www.Madison-Bouckville.com); and an expanded Out Front Show Field. Ground was broken for Out Front's new pavilion in May. It should be completed by August. Also, Indian Opening Acres, operated by Mike Tanner, has also been expanded and can accommodate more vendors.
The $500 cash giveaway (officially called Cash Walk) works like this: Players can pick up a “playing card” at the Cider House Antique Store, on Route 20, on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (Aug. 14-16). From there they must take the card to all ten participating show fields or shops (Cider House is one) and have the card stamped by an authorized person at each location.
Once all ten stamps have been collected, the player then brings his or her card to the Troop Scoops ice cream shop, also on Route 20, no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, where it is entered into a drawing. The winner of the drawing (to be held on Friday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m.) will receive $500 in cash. Players need not be present at the drawing to win the cash.
Many year-round antiques shops and co-ops will be open during the show. Folks familiar with Bouckville will know the town is home to around 20 antiques and collectibles shops, most of them along State Route 20. But that wasn’t the case 41 years ago, when it was mainly a sleepy farming community. All that changed when the Madison-Bouckville Antique Show was started.
