News-Antique.com - Jul 05,2012 - MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – July 5, 2012 – Skinner, Inc. will host a Discovery auction on July 18th and 19th in its Marlborough gallery. The sale presents an excellent assortment of artwork along with Country Americana-style furnishings and decorative objects.
Studio Paintings (Lots 1-600)
Highlights from this diverse selection of paintings include an oil painting by Andrew S. Conklin (lot 260, estimated between $800 and $1,200) titled Blue Paper, An Artist's Studio with his Nude Model, as well as Scott Moore’s Low Tide (lot 108, $700 to $900), William Baxter Palmer Closson’s Portrait of Three Ladies in Profile (lot 119, $800 to $1,200), Lobster Shack, Cape Ann by Tom Nicholas (lot 160, $600 to $800), Benjamin Franklin De Haven’s Haunt of the Kingfisher (lot 385, $2,000 to $3,000), and Horn’s Ranch by James Emery Greer (lot 401, $800 to $1,200). A monoprint titled Komposition Mit Kleiner Figur by German artist Hannah Hoch (lot 130, $800 to $1,200) and a painting titled Family Carrying Fruit by Jean-Rene Chery (lot 245, $300 to $500) will also be offered.
Country Americana (Lots 601-1318)
Session two, which features Country Americana, will include weather vanes, Toleware, pine blanket chests, Federal candle stands, butter molds and much more. Highlights include an 83-piece Copeland Spode Red Trade Winds pattern ironstone dinner service (lot 667, $400 to $600), a 19th century American portrait of a young girl holding a basket of flowers (lot 739, $1,500 to $2,500), a polychrome painted wood “Shine10” advertising bench (lot 755, $400 to $600), a pair of Grenfall Industries painted carved wood seated Eskimo figural bookends (lot 876, $250 to $350), a Federal octagonal cherry and maple candle stand (lot 970, $300 to $500), and a country white and green-painted pine step-back cupboard (lot 1036, $1,200 to $1,500). An early 20th century large painted sailboat model (lot 774, $300 to $500) and a modern drafting illustrated painted wood half hull model of a ship (lot 1031, $400 to $600) are also up for bid.
