News-Antique.com - May 28,2012 - Laurie Raba's new show "My Mother's Jewels" opens in the Gallery @ FOUND on Wednesday, June 20th. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, June 21st from 5-7pm. Refreshments will be served and FOUND will remain open for a little after-hours shopping! The show will hang in the gallery until July 15th.
"My Mother's Jewels" is a departure for the Ithaca area photographer, whose work has primarily been of landscapes and botanical scenes. The idea for this new series began with her desire to photograph treasured pieces of jewelry handed down to her from her mother – a ring that she designed from stones that her father had collected while overseas and a cameo necklace that her mother had passed down to her. After talking with friends about the project, Laurie found that they too had jewelry from their mothers that they would like to have photographed. The portraits are presented to suggest and remind the viewer of the value, meaning, grace, and love that can be passed on through our mothers’ jewels.
The Gallery at FOUND is an intimate art space located within FOUND in Ithaca, the area’s newest antique and vintage marketplace. The gallery showcases works of local artists who utilize found imagery, found objects or employ an up-cycling philosophy in their work. FOUND will remain open during the artist’s reception. Come browse through 7,000 square feet of hand selected, artfully arranged treasures from our forty five dealers.
FOUND is located along the inlet behind Wegmans at 227 Cherry Street. Open every day except Tuesday, 10-6. For more information call 607-319-5078 or visit our website at http://foundinithaca.com/events/laurie-raba-my-mothers-jewels/
