Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, a longtime member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Gabrielli trio. In excellent condition with a splendid golden varnish, the viola is 16 3/8 inches and is considered ideal for both orchestral and chamber music.
Cellists will find a fine English cello from 1792 by Benjamin Banks of Salisbury (lot 78, $18,000 to $22,000). This Banks was previously the instrument of the esteemed and beloved cello teacher, Margaret Rowell. It was fully restored in 1979 by Mario D’Allesandro, sold and certified that year by Jacques Francais.
French Bows
The sale also features a fine collection of French bows including a Francois Jude Gaulard violin bow (lot 114, $6,000 to $8,000), a Joseph Henry violin bow (lot 126, $14,000 to $18,000), a Jacob Eury violin bow (lot 103, $10,000 to $14,000), a Eugene Sartory violin bow (lot 128, $10,000 to $14,000), and a Victor Fetique violoncello bow (lot 141, $8,000 to $12,000).
