News-Antique.com - Mar 01,2012 - MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – March 1, 2012 – Skinner, Inc. will host a Discovery auction on March 14th and 15th in its Marlborough gallery. The two-day sale presents an excellent assortment of estate silver and jewelry, with more than 500 pieces on offer. The sale also features more than 100 lots from the estate of Susan Parrish, who was well-known for her collection of antique and vintage textiles.
Jewelry and Watches
Jewelry highlights include the multiple offerings in lot 362 ($400 - $600): a Tiffany & Co. sterling silver, 18kt gold, and hematite suite comprised of a cuff bracelet, necklace, earrings, and ring, together with an Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. 18kt gold open heart pendant on chain. From Georg Jensen USA comes a pair of acorn earrings, each formed as a single acorn framed by two oak leaves (lot 231, $150 - $200). The sale will also offer a modern sterling silver and amethyst brooch with a maker’s mark “CS” stamped on the reverse. The brooch depicts two mythical beasts and is set with two cabochon amethysts (lot 306, $150 - $250).
A gentleman's Krieger chronometer stainless steel wristwatch (lot 248, $200 to $300) will be offered along with many other quality watches, including a 14kt gold Rolex "Oyster Perpetual" wristwatch (lot 251, $600 to $800), and a 14kt gold Tiffany & Co. ladies’ wristwatch (lot 271, $400 to $600).
Estate Silver
Estate silver highlights include a Camusso Peruvian sterling silver cocktail shaker (lot 164, $300 to $500); a pair of Boardman, Glossop & Co. silver-plated oil lamps (lot 176, $300 to $500); a set of four Richard Dimes sterling mint julep cups (lot 131, $300 to $500); and a Civil War related silver-plated urn with the inscription “Taken from the residence of COMMODORE FORREST/CLAREMONT VA, on the retreat from the first Battle of Bull Run, July 22nd 1861 . . .” (lot 616, $600 to $1,000).
The Estate of Susan Parrish
Over 100 lots in this sale come from the estate of Susan Parrish. Parrish, who owned a well-respected antiques shop in New York City’s West Village, specialized in early American textiles. Highlights from the Parrish collection include a hand-stitched wool quilt with a diagonal check pattern (lot 1024, $300 to $500), a Mennonite hand-stitched pieced cotton string stars pattern quilt (lot 904, $300 - $500), and a hand-stitched pieced cotton geometric pattern quilt (lot 869, $200 - $300). Additional textiles include a number of vintage wool Indian trade blankets including examples from Pendleton (see lots 950, 951, and 952).
Other highlights from the Parrish estate include a pale yellow painted Federal four-drawer chest (lot 544, $800 to $1,200); a white painted cupboard with two paneled doors (lot 672, $600 to $800); and three painted canvas swan decoys (lot 533, $800-$1,200).
