(Boston, MA) – Artfact Live! began the new year on a high note with impressive sales from some of the world’s leading auction houses. Book auctions had one of their busiest months in January. National Book Auctions’ January 8th "Books & Ephemera" auction saw 75.6% of the 487 lots sell online through Artfact Live!, while Lyon & Turnbull’s "Rare Books, Maps & Manuscripts" auction on January 11th posted £56,810 (USD$89,259) in online sales. Artfact Live! was also responsible for the sale of 41% of total lots during Dargate Auction Gallery’s three-day auction this month.

Anatole Krasnyansky (1930 - ) "The Old Fountain"
Realized Price: $2,750
J Levine Auction & Appraisal sold Anatole Krasnyansky’s watercolor painting “The Old Fountain” to an online bidder for $2,750 on New Year’s Day. Krasnyansky is famous for his revolutionary watercolor techniques and the surrealist masked figures featured in a number of his paintings. “The Old Fountain” outperformed its estimated price of $1,500-$2,500.
A Colt Model 1878 “Frontier” Double Action Revolver featured in Garth’s Auction's January 6th "Firearms & Accoutrements" auction performed well beyond expectations. The Revolver, a classic, sought-after collectible from the famous Colt line, doubled estimates when it sold to an online bidder for $2,900.
Lyon & Turnbull, “Rare Books, Maps & Manuscripts” – 1/11/2012
Richard Bright’s “Report on Medical Cases”
Realized Price: £12,000 (USD$ 18,854)
Among a wide selection of rare and antique medical books and manuscripts included in Lyon & Turnbull’s "Rare Books, Maps & Manuscripts" auction on January 11th, Richard Bright’s Reports on Medical Cases was among the most successful lots. The manuscript, originally published in London between 1827 and 1831, provides detailed descriptions and illustrations of Bright’s cases. The lot sold to an online bidder for £12,000 (USD$18,854) against an estimated price of £5,000-£8,000 (USD$7,856 - 12,569).
Stair Galleries, “Asian & Ethnographic and English & Continental” – 1/14/2012
Chinese Huanghuali Cabinet
Realized Price: $5,000
Huanghuali has become an immensely popular and expensive wood among collectors of Asian art, and it’s reflecting in auction sales. Stair Galleries estimated that a Chinese Huanghuali Cabinet featured in their January 14th auction would bring in between $400 and $600. The lot drew considerable interest from several online bidders, finishing with a realized price of $5,000.
Kodner Galleries, “Antiques, Fine Arts, Jewelry & Decorative Arts” – 1/18/2012
Fine Chinese Carved Jadeite Double Cabochon
Realized Price: $40,000
A Chinese, Carved Jadeite Double Cobochon proved to be an enormous draw at at Kodner Galleries’ January 18th auction. The ring, featuring jadeite mounted in 18 karat gold, was estimated to fetch $10,000-$15,000, but drew the significant realized price of $40,000 when it sold to an online bidder from Hong Kong.
