The sale will take place in Peterborough, N.H. at 50 Jaffrey Road, as well as live online at Artfact.com. The auction boasts a large collection of original art, furniture, pottery, vases, antiques and many other great items. This auction boasts an extensive and wide-ranging collection of artwork. Paintings include portraits, still lifes, thematic pieces and landscapes. Fifteen paintings by American artist Frederick Rhodes Sisson are included in this collection, in a variety of styles and sizes. Sisson’s work would be a great addition for any collector or for display in any room. A number of portraits, by Sisson and others, are for auction as well. One of the most impressive of these is by Jose Silbert, depicting a North African man wearing a red turban. This oil on canvas portrait is from the late-19th to early-20th century and is identified with a French label on its reverse.
The assortment of antique furniture is also impressive. Items from as far as China make up a collection of desks, tables, chairs and cabinets built with care and attention rarely found outside antique furniture realm. Lot 112 displays a Queen Anne Slant Front Desk, built by Levi Bartlett between 1800 and 1815 in Gilmanton, NH. The cabinet is 38-inch wide, 43-inch tall, 20.5-inch deep, has a divided interior with three central-stacked convex drawers and numerous other small drawers and cubby holes. The most interesting piece of furniture for auction is likely considered the Regina Sublima Corona Automatic Dick Changer Music Box. Dated between 1897 and 1907, fewer than 1000 of these revolutionary music boxes were made and this precursor to the jukebox is expected to sell for between $9,000 and $12,000. Other decorative items, collectibles, oriental rugs and porcelain dishware are available for auction as well.
