Holiday Shopping Gets Old (When You Shop for Antiques) Christmas sweaters are a dime-a-dozen so why not consider shopping for a truly unique gift that's also cost-effective, higher quality and environmentally friendly? Tis the season to shop antiques!
News-Antique.com - Dec 08,2011 - The holiday season may be a time of giving so why is it most of us struggle to find just the right gift? Just how many pairs of socks and fragrance gift sets can one person genuinely appreciate through the years? If you suspect that the recipient is equally weary of receiving these tried and true gifts, consider something unique – consider giving a one-of-a-kind item that will let the recipient know that they are as special as the present you give them.
If you are ready to think outside of the “big box” this year, antiques, vintage items and collectibles allow you to make a statement, celebrate our history and practice the growing movement to “reduce, reuse and recycle.”
Orallo Inc., an online company that specializes in unique and special antiques, vintage and collectibles. If you choose to “think big” this year, there is no better gift than the gift of music. So maybe it can’t be easily gift wrapped but Orallo is currently offering your special someone an incredible antique Mathushek square grand piano, orchestral model.
This is a rare find and in especially good refurbished condition with replaced ivories, a keyboard that easily slides out and screw-off legs. It has been professionally restored – true to its original design and construction. The piano is marked, "Antique Mathushek Piano Company Manufacturing, New Haven, Connecticut, Orchestral." The square box of this piece is made of Brazilian Rosewood and the legs are made of Poplar (necessary for carving). These are ornately carved with incredible detail.
Interestingly, an original advertisement for this unique square grand piano reads, "rich Rosewood case, improved Agraffe throughout, three strings, four large round corners, back finished like front, rich pearl top and plinth mouldings, heavy carved serpentine, extra rich carved legs and lyre, usual size Square, 6 feet 9 1/2 inches long, 3 feet 4 inches wide." It is titled, "No. 14 - ORCHESTRAL, 7 1-3 OCTAVES. - PRICE $1,000." Our own approximate measurements are 90 inches width, 39 inches depth and 37 inches height (http://www.rubylane.com/item/598409-GRAANTPIAN01A/Incredible-Antique-Mathushek-Square-Grand).
