News-Antique.com - Nov 07,2011 - Having branched out into selling Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox and other diecast on their own site, they’d enjoyed considerable success. And when they found out about Toy Collector’s new specialist marketplace for collectable toys, and the way in which it operates – powered by ToyPedia, Toy Collector’s wiki-based catalogue of collectable toys and models and being part of a site which draws collectors’ attention with a wide array of social media tools, from forums to galleries – they immediately saw it as a great possibility for expansion.
ToyPedia already had complete listings for Dinky and most of vintage Corgi and Matchbox, so the vast majority of Reeded Edge’s stock was already in the database. But given that they do also have items from a few more obscure makers, not everything was already listed.
Luckily, this was easily and quickly taken care of, as the ToyPedia team were able to add the brands and items needed to the database in a matter of minutes. ToyPedia’s endless flexibility means it’s possible to upload and edit any number of listings for a brand’s products – if only one item is known to have been made by a manufacturer, that can be added to the database, and if 20 more are then discovered, the listings can be easily amended by the team to reflect this, making it an ever-evolving information resource.
The wiki-based user interface meant they could also quickly add descriptive info and images for items themselves (wherever other users hadn’t already done so) Having filled in their standard listing info on their profile page (shipping prices, combined shipping costs, any standard text they wanted to include in all their listings and the default currency in which they want to list), it was then just a case of browsing to the item they wanted to sell in ToyPedia and clicking the Sell This Item button to create a listing - with all the info about the item held in ToyPedia already pre-filled in.
Having chosen between the Buy-It-Now and Auction formats, put in a price or a start bit and uploaded their free-to-upload images (up to ten of them), all they needed to do then was fill in the condition descriptions and tweak any of the standard listing info that needed to be different for that particular item (all standard info being fully editable for individual listings from the listing page) before clicking the List Item button. And that was the item listed - in roughly half the time it would take to list it on eBay. Here are Reeded Edge’s current Toy Collector listings.
