Road Trip, Amazing Photos of Unseen America reaches back into his Jon's archives and features selected images that typify his career photographing American Roadside attractions during the 1970’s and 80’s. His work is humorous, surprising, and ironic.
The show opens Wednesday, November 16th. An artist's reception will take place on Thursday, November 17th from 5-7pm. Please stop by to meet the artist, see the show and enjoy light refreshments! The show will hang in the Gallery until December 18th.
The photographs of Jon Reis have been seen around Ithaca, New York and elsewhere for at least the last thirty five years. Jon began his career at the Ithaca Journal and then free-lanced his images to the Ithaca Times, Grapevine Press and many major national magazines such as Time, Newsweek, New York Times, Business Week, American Demographics and others. He launched his commercial studio in 1982 in downtown Ithaca and just recently morphed it into a Portrait Studio / Photo Gallery / Digital darkroom. Along the way he has taught photography at Ithaca College and Cornell University.
A large body of Jon’s work is in the Lightwork / Community Darkroom Archive in Syracuse, NY. They have sponsored him for numerous photographer grants including a New York State Council for the Arts grant which resulted in a major retrospective. He is a member of the Greater Ithaca Art Trail and the American Society of Media Photographers.
The Gallery at FOUND is an intimate art space located within FOUND in Ithaca, the area’s newest antique and vintage marketplace. The gallery showcases works of local artists who utilize found imagery, found objects or employ an up-cycling philosophy in their work. FOUND will remain open during the artist’s reception. Come browse through 7,000 square feet of hand selected, artfully arranged treasures from our forty five dealers.
