Over time, she developed superlative organizational skills and an uncanny knack for numbers. Until her death at age 89, she could recite anyone’s phone numbers with ease.
Ms. Pais had striking good looks in her youth, with strawberry blonde hair and deep blue eyes. She surprised people when she told them she was Portuguese. She was a career woman, a mother to two daughters, an accomplished cook and, later in life, a caretaker for her mother, her mother-in law and her husband. Her daughter described her as “a 4-foot-eleven-inch dynamo.”
For the most part the auction will be absolute (everything sells, regardless of price), but a few lots will have reserves (minimums). Online bidding will be handled by LiveAuctioneers.com (starting Oct. 11). Phone and absentee bids will also be taken. Previews will be held the week prior to auction day, by appointment, and on the morning of the sale (from 8-9 a.m., CST).
