The Wikicollecting Top 10 Most Valuable Russian Space Memorabilia To commemorate the anniversary of the launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957, Wikicollecting.org takes a look at the most valuable Russian space memorabilia ever sold at auction.
1. Vostok 3KA-2 capsule - $2.9m
The Vostok 3KA-2 space capsule sold for $2.9m at a Sotheby’s auction in April 2011. It was a test capsule, sent up in March 1961, three weeks before Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space.
On board the test capsule were Zvezdochka the dog, who came back unharmed, and a life-size dummy called Ivan Ivanovich.
It is the most expensive piece of space memorabilia ever sold.
The capsule that propelled Gagarin into orbit resides at a private Russian museum run by the state-owned Energia space company.
