$40k and Climbing for Rare Baseball 'Tin' l Top Selling eBay Auction WhatSellsBest.com is reporting bids have soared past $40,000, and are still climbing for a rare antique Tobacco Tin, featuring an image of baseball legend Ty Cobb.
News-Antique.com - Sep 30,2011 - WhatSellsBest.com, a website tracking rare auction items selling on eBay, is reporting bids have soared past $40,000, and are still climbing for a rare antique Tobacco Tin, featuring an image of baseball legend Ty Cobb.
The sellers listing states the Tobacco Tin (circa 1910) was discovered during a remodel of a home they purchased in 2006. It was found behind a small hidden access door which was located in the back of their closet.
According to James Massey, publisher of WSB; "A bidding war erupted from the moment it was listed. 50 bids drove the price from $1,000 to over $40,000 in just 2 hours. With nine days left in the auction (ends october 9th, 2011) it's hard to say how high the price will go."
[UPDATE: October 9, 2011 - The top bid ended up reaching $49,950 for the antique Tobacco Tin, but fell short of the sellers undisclosed auction reserve price]
