Whether you are a collector, an antiques enthusiast, an interior designer or just looking for something to furnish your home, there is a dazzling choice of antiques on offer.
The Grand Hall and adjoining marquee provide the backdrop for displays of period town and country furniture, silver, porcelain, traditional and contemporary fine art, jewellery, sculpture, calling card cases, oriental carpets, boxes, arms and armour, book illustrations, glass and many other decorative works of art. The majority of the 23 exhibitors are members of the British Antique Dealers’ Association or LAPADA The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers and all items are vetted for quality and authenticity.
Amongst the many highlights in the fair is very rare Italian blue and gilt armour in mint condition, dating from the 1560s, from Garth Vincent Antique Arms & Armour and priced between £30,000 and £40,000. Another item of interest is a Japanese sword dating from the Koto period (c15th century), signed by Mori Uje, price £5,750.
From Barling Fine Porcelain is a beautiful 1920s Royal Worcester coffee set of six cups and saucers with illustrations of wrens painted by Ernest Barker, for £4,800. Boxes are very collectable items and Hampton Antiques are bringing a stunning coromandel games compendium box, price £5,850. For a car enthusiast or a Rolls-Royce owner, there is a Rolls-Royce radiator shaped decanter for £775, sold originally by Harrods in the 1960s. An item on Hampton’s stand with a celebrity provenance is a treen urn tea caddy, c1820, with a price tag of £3,500, which featured on BBC2’s Antiques Master on 8 August 2011.
There are plenty of superb pieces of furniture in the fair such as a rare mid 17th century oak juveniles wainscot chair from Melody Antiques at £4,500 or a fine mahogany Gainsborough chair, c1780, £12,500 from Guy Dennler Antiques & Interiors. Nicholas Arkell Antiques is bringing a large 19th century mahogany writing table with original leather top and Bramah locks for the two drawers, for £18,000 along with a Sheraton period, 1790, secretaire bookcase for £12,000. From Freshfords Fine Antiques is a superb George IV Rococo Renaissance period mahogany settee with a Gillows stamp, c1830, selling for £15,000. Market Harborough dealers, Walter Moores & Son, are bringing a Georgian oak dresser base, probably from North Wales, c 1800, for £3,500.
Picture lovers will be spoilt for choice with a 17th century portrait of a lady, c1627, £15,000 from Peter Bunting Antiques, specialists in antique portraits. Inspired by the 500 acres of magnificent Capability Brown landscaped grounds of Stapleford Park, Art of the Imagination is bringing ‘A Day in the Countryside’ a signed oil on canvas by Doris Zinkeisen (1898–1991), priced at £7,950. Art World Gallery is bringing watercolours and oils by Leila Pissarro and contemporary works by leading French artist, David Jamin.
