CINCINNATI – On Thursday August 25, 2011, Cowan’s will host its annual Decor Auction, featuring a wonderful collection of furniture, paintings, prints, sculpture, advertising, glass and folk art from the 19th and the 20th centuries. The 699-lot auction will be held in Cincinnati at Cowan’s auction salesroom. A fresh-to-the-market Portrait by Raphael Soyer will cross Cowan's auction block, leading the charge of this auction's print works. Other highlights in the sale include a Two Pedestal Mahogany Dining Table, and a Tiffany & Company English King Sterling flatware Set.
A Portrait by Raphael Soyer, Lithograph is estimated to bring anywhere from $800/1,200. This lot includes three prints, two hand-colored and one black and white lithograph, all titled Woman in Red Stockings.
Cowan's will also be offering a Two Pedestal Mahogany Dining Table. This table is American, 20th century, and is inlaid in mahogany. It has an oval top with two leaves, rising on two turned pedestal supports, each with splayed legs ending in brass paw feet with castors.
A Cityscape by Howard Cook, Lithograph is estimated to sell for $800/1,200. This lithograph is signed and dated 1937.
A lot of Tiffany & Company English King Sterling Flatware is expected to bring anywhere from $600/700. This lot includes ten pieces of sterling Tiffany & Company flatware in the English King pattern, including five teaspoons and five forks
A Landscape by Louis Endres, titled The River, Oil on Canvas Board is estimated at $600/800.
A Still Life by Elwood Fordham, Oil on Board will be coming up for sale in the auction. It is estimated at $1,000/2,000.
A Lot of Queen Anne Style Chairs are estimated at $1,000/2,000. These chairs are American, 20th century and mahogany. The lot includes six side chairs and two arm chairs, all with shaped splat, turned stretchers and cabriole legs ending in padded feet.
A Lot of Chinese Hardstone Seals are expected to bring $1,000/2,000. The lot includes one pair of large seals which have Chinese calligraphy on one side and four character marks on the base. It also includes two small seals, each with mytholigical beast finial, rectangular bodies with Chinese calligraphy on one side and two character marks on the base.
A Patriotic Still Life by Charlotte Morgan, Oil on Canvas is also estimated at $1,000/2,000. Charlotte E. Morgan is popularly known for her paintings of early California history and Western subject matter. This painting of a patriotic still life arrangement includes an American flag, a West Point soldier's uniform and a sword and cap.
A Federal-style Secretary Bookcase is expected to bring $800/1,200. American, circa 1940's, this federal-style inlaid secretary bookcase is in mahogany with two glazed doors over tambour doors enclosing a fitted interior above a fold-out writing surface.
