Sale Includes a Large Collection of Patches, Insignia, and Helmets
News-Antique.com - Aug 05,2011 - CINCINNATI – On August 10, 2011, Cowan’s will host its third World at War auction following the success of the inaugural auction in 2010. This 537-lot sale will be held in the Cowan’s auction salesroom in Cincinnati and will feature a selection of military items from 20th century conflicts. The sale includes a unique collection of fresh-to-the-market patches, insignia, and weaponry from 20th century military conflicts. Some of the highlights in the auction are a German WW I Prussian Enlisted Man's Spiked Helmet and a German WW II Luftwaffe Sword with Army Lanyard
Cowan’s will be offering a lot of two German WW II Luftwaffe Pilots and Observers Badges estimated at $1,000/1,500. The pilot's badge is maker marked Junker with cut outs between the legs and the observer's badge is made by IMME.
A German WW I Prussian Enlisted Man's Spiked Helmet is expected to bring anywhere from $1,000/1,500. The helmet is named on the back viser to A. Schultz. It has both cocades and a chin strap with early brass fittings.
A Bernard Evander, Assistant Postmaster, U.S. Cavalry, Mexican Border War Archive is estimated at $600/800. This lot includes over 200 items, plus two books, a scrapbook, and a stenciled chest.
Also offered in the sale is a Large Lot of U.S. WW I Militaria expected to bring $600/800. The lot includes a signed photo of General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing and a nice 37th Division patch and victory medal.
A CZ-27 Semi Automatic Pistol With Holster is estimated at $500/700. The pistol is finish blue with walnut grips in the original holster.
A Baton Presented to Major General S.H. Matheson Easy Company of the 506th is expected to bring anywhere from $300/500. The baton has two general's stars next to a brass plaque that reads "Major General S.H. Matheson Honorary Member of the Fort Campbell Fraternal Order of Police".
World War II Aviator's Flight Log Books of Lt. Ben Preston includes two WW II flight log books of Lt. Ben Preston. Preston was a carrier pilot on the USS Yorktown, the USS Enterprise and the USS Intrepid.
A German WW II Luftwaffe Sword with Army Lanyard is estimated anywhere from $700/900. This sword has an army shooting lanyard displayed on its scabbard.
A Lot of Six U.S. Vietnam Combat and Pilot Knives are expected to sell for $200/400. The lot includes two MK-2 combat knives, four pilots knives, and a camillus blade marked pre-1966.
An American WW I Poster titled USA Bonds Third Liberty Loan Campaign Boy Scouts of America is expected to bring $200/400.
A German WW II Luftwaffe Enlisted Man's Model 43 Cap is estimated at $800/1,200.
A Lot of Three German WW II Nazi Navy Medals are estimated to sell for $600/800. The lot includes three Naval badges: One Coastal Artillery Flak Badge, One High Seas Badge, and One Destroyer Bade.
