S&S Timms Antiques Announces New iPhone App It is now possible to enter a shop full of antique furniture and accessories on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch anywhere in the world (subject to signal).
Antiques are members of both the major UK trade associations, The British Antique Dealers Association (BADA) and LAPADA The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers and consequently are bound by and happy to adhere to the Associations’ strict Codes of Practice.
OnlineGalleries.com have their own antiques portal, in association with CINOA, and have produced websites for both the BADA and LAPADA. More recently they also developed an App for LAPADA.
The iPhone doesn’t process XML quickly enough for S&S Timms’ requirements, so OnlineGalleries.com created their own format for sending and receiving data, which allows them to send large amounts of textual information quickly and allows the iPhone to process it speedily.
OnlineGalleries.com’s CDN assigns each image a unique id, along with a number of prefixes for each of the sizes stored. This enabled them to easily create a caching object on the iPhone to download each image once only. If the application is used over a long period of time, the phone will gradually fill up with many pictures of antiques, so Online Galleries have limited the amount of cache that can be used for these images, automatically pruning images that have not been used recently. These improvements allow Online Galleries to give the user up to date results, using their fully featured search engine.
