News-Antique.com - Jun 04,2011 - A collection of boxing-style cardboard concert posters from the Richmond area in the 1960s with James Brown, Wilson Pickett and Sam & Dave will be auctioned by Phil Weiss in NY June 11.
The posters produced by the Globe Poster Company of Baltimore for venues like the Mosque Auditorium, the Sahara Club and City Stadium were originally stapled to telephone poles, so very few survived. This style of poster is iconic and desired by collectors and designors.
Soul music shows like these featured numerous great performers on a single show and was better than television. Original music memorabilia has proven to be a good investment and this selection is worthy of attention.
The music memorabilia section also includes Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, The Who, Janis Joplin and The Beatles, along with a section of Jazz greats including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong and Illinois Jacquet.
