Dinky’s Bedford CF Van – ToyPedia® Has More Than 57 Varieties, but do you have the Heinz Version? ToyPedia, Toy Collector’s online database of collectable toys and models, has a new record-holder: the Dinky Bedford CF Van has clocked in with no less than 339 different variants.
News-Antique.com - Jun 02,2011 - The huge number of different versions is thanks to the model’s popularity as a promotional item between its introduction in 1973 and Dinky’s 1980 bankruptcy. However, Toy Collector only have photographs of around half the variations and are still seeking images of the rest; including a version in the famous Heinz livery. As well as Cadburys, Camp Coffee, Carlsberg Lager, Haigs Whisky, Kodak Film, Lyons Tea, Raleigh Cycles, Saxa Salt and Schweppes to name but a few.

Anika Schäfer, ToyPedia Volunteer Co-ordinator says “Now in its 2nd year we are getting better and better quality data from so many collectors and organisations.
ToyPedia (www.toycollector.com/ToyPedia) already has 134,173 items uploaded, with around 260,000 items waiting to be edited by my team and then to be uploaded to the database!”
Currently, the project is supported by;
•650 volunteers
•9 authors who have permitted the organisers to use text and images from 19 books as part of a ToyPedia Book Documentation Project
•350 toy brands who have agreed to open their archives
•11 leading auction houses including Bonham’s and Christie’s have allowed use of their images
•20 members of the new ToyPedia Advisory Board who advise on organisation and taxonomy
Dinky Toys are particularly important to Toy Collector since it is launching a collectors’ marketplace on June 29th which will initially focus on only Corgi and Dinky Toys.
