News-Antique.com - Feb 25,2011 - Jacque Hobe' began his artistry in 1877 in France. His items were produced for the middle and upper classes. He came to Jupiter, Fla. in America and set up his business in 1915, William Hobe' worked with Edith Head on many movies to produce jewelry suitable for the glamour’s movie industry. Hobe advertised with the slogan “Jewels of Legendary Splendor.” And I believe that is correct. The appearance of this suite is subtle as well as delicate and difficult to describe and yet completely magnificent. It would “add the look” to a very lovely basic black sheath dress, as well as a soft spring colored suite
This complete suite of necklace, bracelet and earrings is very beautiful as each stone and rhinestone is individual prong set not pasted into place. There are no missing pieces and the backs of the necklace and bracelet, as well as, the earrings are as if they were never worn.
However, this suite was purchased in the 1930's by a young very talented Lite Opera singer, who made her début with the Lite Opera in Chicago. Her talent gave great joy to all who heard repertory. She later became a teacher in the Michigan school system and gave herself to teaching young people the great joy of using and enjoying music. She spent many years in the music field and devoted herself to teaching and helping her students to become aware of the finer details of music, as well as, to know and understand the Great Men and Women of Music.
The necklace is 14inches to 16inches long the bracelet is 7inches long with a safety chain, the earrings are one inch long with cushioned ear pieces for comfort. Hallmarked Hobe'. The colors of this prong set are brilliant rhinestone in a blue/white sparkle and the other prong set stones are light beige. The rhinestones cross in the center of the necklace to give the appearance of a bow and the rhinestones make an “S”; curve on the bracelet. The earrings are in a leaf design that fits perfectly the curve of your ear. The complexity of this suite, is superb, as it is difficult to find Hobe’ jewelry from that era that is complete in every way.
This wonderful suite may be found in Koble Antiques by Patricia in the Tias Group at the price of $325.00
