European Antiques Tour Spotlights New Sources, Best Markets and Under-the-Radar Dealers A March antique tour to Europe will scour castles, markets, shops, warehouses and old factories for hot antiques, design objects and collectibles. It's "Antiques Roadshow, European Style."
News-Antique.com - Feb 22,2011 - Philadelphia – February 22, 2011 -- A small band of antiques lovers will be foraging for treasures on a buying trip to the nooks and crannies of Europe, March 20-29, 2011. Space is limited and is available on a first-come-first-served basis
Participants will be seeing an immense variety of antiques, design, estate treasures, art and collectibles on the expedition, which is being organized by Philadelphia-based dealer Tom Conrad. The small-group trips have been featured in Country Living, USA Today and Australian House and Garden.
The tour includes Bamberg, Prague, Leipzig and smaller towns along the back roads of Germany and the Czech Republic. The trip focuses on little-known dealers and will include two of the best markets in Europe.
Central Europe is the most-overlooked antiques region on the continent -- that’s why it’s the best place to shop.
There is renewed interest in Art Deco, Bauhaus, Mid-Century and Modernism. 18th and 19th century styles still hold sway with many dealers. Historicism, Art Nouveau, Industrial and painted furniture of all periods are popular.
“Prices are friendly and antiques are plentiful in Central Europe, whatever period, style or look you want,” says Conrad. "We see a huge range, including low-cost, mid-range and up-market antiques," he added.
The March trip covers a large area of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and the old kingdoms of Saxony, Franconia and Bohemia. It would be hard to find another region that is as rich in such exceptional furniture and outstanding art, glass, crystal, porcelain, lighting, pottery, toys, dolls, folk art, primitives, jewelry and textiles.
The program includes airport transfers, ground travel with private driver, full itinerary, guide, hotel, visits to antique markets, retail shops, trade sources and wholesalers and ongoing support during the trip.
Who doesn’t love a bargain? Central Europe is one of the best-priced markets for American shoppers right now. The dollar has surged over 20% against the euro when it was at its high point.
The antiques market in Europe has been in the doldrums, so dealers are eager to move their inventory and are motivated to do business with visitors from overseas. The trips appeal to dealers and designers, collectors and adventurers. Heart of Europe also helps with shipping after the tour.
Space is limited and is offered on a first-come-first-served basis. The tour will close soon.
