News-Antique.com - Nov 29,2010 - CLEVELAND – "Kovels on Antiques and Collectibles" December 2010 issue is now available in print and online. The December issue of the monthly newsletter includes Chocolate Advertising Signs, Comic Character Tin Toys, Schäfer & Vater Ceramics, Danish Furniture, Silk Trade Banners and Santa Buttons. You'll also find Arts & Crafts metalwork marks and a price guide.
Just in time for the start of the Christmas season, the December issue of "Kovels on Antiques and Collectibles" has photos and a price report from an auction of early 20th century signs advertising candy. Some brands enlisted Santa to help sell their candy. Images of Santa can also be found on early 20th-century advertising buttons. Stores gave them away to promote Christmas events and good wishes.
The December newsletter features photos, descriptions and prices of 20th-century American tin windup character toys. See Popeye, Krazy Kat, Happy Hooligan, and Orphan Annie’s dog Sandy and others. Have a chuckle at some comic figural liquor bottles made by Schäfer & Vater of Germany. And learn more about furniture made in Denmark—pieces include Hans Wegner’s "Papa Bear" chair, Verner Panton’s "Relaxing 2" chair, and Finn Juhl’s "Judas" teak dining table.
The Collector’s Gallery answers readers' questions about a Police Foot Powder tin, an antique wheelchair, a cast iron doorstop and a comic character figurine set.
With its mixture of advice and reports on what’s hot in the market, the newsletter has something to offer for both beginning and experienced collectors.
