Mr. Dana Johnson has authored such books as the Toy Car Collector's Guide and a series of price guides to Matchbox Toys, as well having produced self-published books on various lesser-known brands. He has also served as editor and publisher of the Diecast Toy Collector and Toy Car Collector newsletters (1995-2002), and has amassed an extensive toy car collection since 1962 when he purchased his first Matchbox toy for 49 cents.
Mr. Johnson grew up in Michigan, then moved to Bend, Oregon, in 1985. Soon after, he restarted collecting die-cast toy cars when he discovered a cache of French-made Majorette toys in a department store in Madras, Oregon. Since then, his collection expanded to over 20,000 models from hundreds of manufacturers worldwide.
In his extensive research, Mr. Johnson has discovered over 1,000 toy car brands which he has documented in his Toy Car Collector's Guide 2nd Edition, ISBN 1574324586, published in 2006 by Collector Books, a division of Schroeder Publishing of Paducah, Kentucky.
Mr. Johnson started photographing models from his collection for inclusion in his various books, newsletters and publications. His photographic interests have since expanded to include nature and scenic photography, and his digital library now exceeds 50,000 photos.
