Free Copies of New Book About T206 Baseball Cards Now Available Honus Wagner, Cy Young and Ty Cobb are well known, but who were the other 390 players depicted on the legendary T206 baseball cards a century ago? A new book explains, and free copies are available.
News-Antique.com - May 18,2010 - Free copies are available from Professional Sports Authenticator (www.PSAcard.com) of a new book about one of the most important baseball card sets ever issued. The book is "The T206 Collection: The Players & Their Stories," written by Tom Zappala and Ellen Zappala with Lou Blasi (http://www.t206players.com).
"It's the stories behind the players that drive people to collect their sports cards. The T206 already is one of the most popular sets in the hobby, but this book takes it to another level," said Joe Orlando, PSA President and Editor of the Sports Market Report monthly price guide magazine. Orlando wrote the book's foreword as well as a chapter with useful tips about collecting these historic cards.
"T206" is the designation the hobby uses for the small-sized, white-bordered set of over 500 different baseball cards depicting 393 different major and minor league players that were issued as premiums with tobacco products distributed by 16 different companies between 1909 and 1911. Unlike modern cards that are usually printed with information about the players, the back of each T206 card has an advertisement for a tobacco product.
The set contains the so-called "Holy Grail of Baseball Cards" of Hall of Fame star Honus Wagner, as well as cards of other players whose names are still honored today such as Ty Cobb, Cy Young, and Christy Mathewson.
This is the first reference book to provide biographies and professional statistics for all the players depicted in the T206 set and who contributed a century ago to the evolution of major league baseball.
"These stories are interesting, even if the player didn't get into the Hall of Fame. The hobby needs positive information like this, and that's why PSA is so supportive of this book. It helps people understand the history of the game and inspires them to collect," Orlando explained.
The book has a retail price of $38, but a free copy is being given to everyone who joins or renews their Gold or Platinum level membership in the PSA Collector's Club (http://www.psacard.com/join/index.chtml).
The T206 Collection: The Players & Their Stories (ISBN13# 978-1-931807-94-4) is published by Peter E. Randall Publisher. It recently was honored by the Independent Publishers Association as one of the best new sports books.
