News-Antique.com - Mar 16,2010 - The 25th Anniversary California Country & Folk Art Antiques Show will be held in Los Altos, CA on June 12th and 13th. The Show features primarily American country and folk art antiques from the 17th-early 20th centuries. This year a Preview Party and Celebration will be held from 6-9pm on June 12 with special events including a Curator’s Walk and Book Signing by Helaine Fendelman. The Show will be June 13th from 10am to 4pm. From noon – 3pm, “What Is It? What Is It Worth? Professional Appraisals by Ms. Fendelman, nationally recognized appraiser, author, feature columnist for Country Living magazine and co-host of the PBS show “Treasures in Your Attic”. Both the Preview Party and Show will be held at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Avenue in Los Altos, CA.
Fifty antiques dealers from around the US will be selling country to formal furniture, folk art, quilts, hooked rugs, samplers, paintings, lighting, woodenware, baskets, stoneware, architectural and garden elements, camp and cottage, toys, lots of old original paint and more. A special exhibit, Make-Dos and Mends – the Ultimate in Green Living, will examine the creative ways everyday items were mended to extend their usefulness and how broken pieces were combined to create new and useful items. Now these items have become interesting antiques.
Helaine Fendelman will join us from New York. With over 30 years of experience, she is an appraiser, accomplished author, writer of the popular feature “What Is It? What Is It Worth?” in Country Living magazine, and is co-host of a PBS affiliate show “Treasures in Your Attic”. She is also a frequent guest appraiser on national television and radio. She will be leading a Curator’s Walk at 7pm during the Preview Party where she will highlight her favorite antiques around the Show. She will also be signing books at 8pm. As a highly knowledgeable appraiser, we are please that Ms. Fendelman will be available for verbal appraisals from noon – 3pm during the Show. Cost is $10/antique, limit 3 per person.
This year, and for the past 25 years, the antiques show is a fundraiser for the Los Altos History Museum. The Preview Party cost is $35 per person, $25 if you are a Los Altos History Museum member and includes entry to the show. Admission to the show is $6.00. Enter to win a $100.00 show shopping spree; drawings will be held at 8pm for those attending the Preview Party and a second drawing will be held at 2 pm on Sunday. Show attendees are invited to visit the adjacent History Museum at no extra charge and enjoy an additional exhibit on antique quilts at the museum.
Museum members will be cooking up a delightful old-fashioned barbecue with the best hamburgers in town and fresh homemade strawberry shortcake. Whether you are an antique lover or interested in learning more about antiques and American history, you will find this event to be a delightful day.
