The FRIENDS of the Wisconsin Historical Society are still collecting antiques donations for the "Wisconsin - Our Flag's 30th Star" auction to be held April 24, 2010 at Old World Wisconsin's Clausing Barn in Eagle. The items will be sold to the highest bidder without reserve and were acquired directly from homes, most with accompanying provenance. Their latest acquisitions include a matched pair of c1860 American deacon's benches (one of two pictured) and an exciting, early 1900s hand-carved folk art Santa with sleigh, all from the F. Kavenik home in Kenosha. Donations of vintage (50-99 years) and antique (100+ years) items for the auction are being accepted through March 1, 2010.
Auction Preview Night will be Friday, April 23, 2010 by advance reservation only. Ticket price of $38 includes a catered dinner with cash bar, free antiques appraisals, a chance to win any one of several gift baskets & gift certificates, and the opportunity to bid on a number of exclusive items including two limited edition prints important to Wisconsin history donated by noted Wisconsin artist Lynn Casper; "Evening Reflections on the Capitol Square - 1917" commemorating the 75th anniversary of the completion of Wisconsin's Statehouse (488/1250), and "Warm Winter Memories" - Evening at Old World Wisconsin Village, an Artist's Proof (120/125). A highlight of Preview Night will be an entertaining program "For What It's Worth" presented by Karl Gates, a retired Art & English teacher with 30 years of experience in conducting seminars on antiques and collectibles. (See http://www.karlgates.com/id10.html for more credentials.)
