Ercole Barovier Intarsia Art Glass Vase
Price Realized: $11,000
Known best as a Christian Science practitioner and teacher, William D. Ansley was also a dedicated collector of contemporary art glass. Antique Helper's December 19th sale of the Ansley estate featured more than 500 glass designs along with 200 art glass reference books. One of the highlights of the auction, which generated over 1,700 online bids, was a 12" Intarsia vase from Murano glassmaker Barovier & Toso. Designed by Ercole Barovier, the vase was estimated at $3,000 to $5,000 and sold online for $11,000. Owner Dan Ripley declared the sale, in which nearly 40% of the lots sold to online bidders, "the most complete and consistent online bidding of any sale in my 12 year history of offering Internet bidding."
