News-Antique.com - Jan 05,2010 - The 49th Annual Original Miami Beach Antique Show will host free antique appraisals during this year’s show by an internationally recognized panel of world-renowned appraisers comprised of Gary Piattoni, David McCarron and Todd Peenstra.

The appraisals, free to consumers with paid admission to the show, will take place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, in Hall D at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Each attendee will be allowed to have one item appraised; however, items purchased at the show will not be eligible.
“Last year was the first time we offered the public appraisals of family heirlooms and antique treasures brought from home,” said Andrea Canady, fair director for the Original Miami Beach Antique Show. “We are interested in providing this added service to consumers especially in this tight economy. Many people are interested in speaking with industry experts about items around their homes and those that have been handed down from relatives.”
Gary Piattoni has more than 20 years experience in the fine art and antique business. He holds a certificate in appraisal studies from New York University and is a former specialist with Christie's fine art auction house in New York. He has also appeared as an appraiser on PBS's Antiques Roadshow since 1997, as well as a guest on ABC's The Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC's The Maury Povich Show, and WGN Radio's Milt Rosenberg Extension 720. He also has contributed to numerous articles in such publications as New York Magazine, Town & Country, Chicago Magazine, and Design Times.
David McCarron carries more than 25 years of experience as an appraiser and auctioneer for regional and international auction houses, including senior positions at Eldred's, Sotheby's, Boos Gallery, and most recently, Freeman's. His broad knowledge across many disciplines is recognized and respected throughout the auction world. He has also appeared as a popular television figure on The Oprah Winfrey Show and CNN. He has been a regular appraiser on Antiques Roadshow since the show's premiere in 1997.
Todd Peenstra has more than 20 years of hands-on experience buying, selling and appraising antiques for the one of the world’s leading art and antiques galleries. He has had a long tenure as a sales consultant and has worked with world-renowned collectors and first time antique buyers bringing knowledge, perspective, and insight to the acquisition of entire estates to single purchases.
Show hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 21, through Sunday, January 24, and noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, January 25. Appraisals will only be held from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 23. A one-time admission of $15 is valid for all five days of the show.
