News-Antique.com - Nov 03,2009 - Kaminski Auctions’ October Fine Art and Estates Auction, which took place October 24, 2009, attracted bidders both locally in Massachusetts and internationally via phone and live online bidding. The auction featured general antiques and fine art alongside a premier collection of fine antique rugs and carpets. Consignments hailed from estates spanning Massachusetts to Kaminski’s second location in California. (All prices reflect a 15% buyers premium)
Highlighting this exciting auction was a fine mid-19th Century Turkoman Tekke Torba rug. The rug, like many others in the auction, originally hails from the estate of Morton Bradley, which was recently deaccessioned by the University of Indian Foundation. The rug measures 16.5 x 44.5 inches and features a bold red and green geometric pattern. A feverish volley of bids rocketed the rug’s price to $15,525, nearly 20 times its original high estimate.
Additional rug highlights included a Russian Caucasian Shrivan Perepedil rug, which realized $9,200. A fine 19th Century Turkoman Yomut Asmalyk rug brought $8,050, reaching over ten times its original estimate. Finally, a 19th Century Turkoman Tekke Torba rug with silk weaving sold for $7,750 to an on-site bidder.
Fine art was also in demand at Kaminski’s October Estates Auction. A painting by American artist Anthony Thieme (1888-1954), Sailing Ships, fetched an impressive $12,650. The signed oil on canvas painting measures 25 x 30 inches in an ornate antique frame. Thieme, a contemporary of Rockport artists Aldro Hibbard and Emile Gruppe, is well known for his landscape and marine paintings.
Bidders also vied for a number of fine jewelry pieces. A 3-carat diamond ring set in yellow gold hailed from a La Jolla, California estate and brought $8,625. A 2.75-carat diamond ring from the same estate, surrounded by a cluster of smaller diamonds, also wowed auction-goers, bringing $24,150.
“It was a pleasure to offer such a wide variety of fine antique rugs to our bidders.” comments Frank Kaminski. “We are always looking for items to include in upcoming auctions and can take consignments in any volume, from a single piece to an entire estate.”
